About : what's in the mix?
A while ago, I was looking for a webpage on which I could find all information I needed on Belgian Golf courses. Needless to say that was quite a job! Of course some of them have (fantastic) websites, others based on a simple but good web-template, others nothing at all.
And what do people really have to say about these courses besides what you read in brochures and leaflets? What's their opinion on the state of the course, what's the atmosphere like, how are the greens?? And what about facilities? And pictures? Prices?
Another thing I'm very fond of are webcams : wouldn't it be great to have a 'quick glance' what the weather is on your golf course before setting off? And while we're at it, why not add a small video: if a picture says more than thousand words, just imagine what a one minute video could do!
It must have been at the 19th of my home club we decided to have webcam overviewing the 1st and 9th hole; With success!
Every month more than 1000 visitors, even far from Aalst, started looking at the webcam images. At that point, it was clear to me : why not build a portal around this concept and see what it does : after all, this is a fun thing to do! For some weeks, we welcome even international visitors on golfcams.be and for some reason 'Google' is picking up very fast on the search results.
I hope you'll enjoy golfcams.be as much as I had while writing down the idea to what it looks like today.

Adding pictures (free)
Every golfclub can have 4 pictures in it's profile, got some? Just mail them to me at pictures at golfscams dot be. Please tell where and when you took these pictures to avoid any mistakes.
Adding a score card (free)
Every club I tend to go, I take a spare blanco scorecard to scan and put in that club profile page. As there are to many clubs to see in a short time notice, please scan your blanco scorecards and mail them to scorecards at golfscams dot be.
Adding club facilities (free)
Same goes for the facilities : as my information today will be outdated tomorrow, help me keeping it alive and up to date by printing this PDF form, filling it out and have it faxed back to me on 053 67 25 99.
Adding a sponsor (paying)
Overall, there is one main clickable sponsor button possibility under the left navigation menu at € 100/year and six smaller, clickable buttons at € 50/year. These button will be used throughout the complete website and visible everywhere. Care to contribute? advertising at golfscams dot be
Adding a webcam (paying)
This is the actual part that costs money. I work with the Axis 207W indoor camera (€ 275) to put a fresh image on the server every minute. This requires hosting on the internet as well (€ 150/year) along with the configuration and the shipping, costs will add up to € 500 the first year (camera, configuration, shipping & handling, hosting) and € 150 (hosting only) from there on per year. Adding a video (paying)
As I work in the broadcast and internet business myself, I do have easy access to these products and people. However, shooting video in broadcast HD quality would drive the price for shooting and production to the roof. Therefore, I work with semi professional material (believe me, it's used for TV as well), professional people and cost effective hardware/software solutions. A two minute video from your club, in full HD (high definition) starts at € 1250, including the actual shooting around the club, postproduction in HD, travel time, legal rights on the music used and a copy on DVD. The video will take about 2 working days to finish.
As the video is shown on the web, there is some hosting involved as well. The hosting for videos is slightly more complicated than a simple webpage (more intense due to heavy traffic) the actual hosting cost would end up to a € 250/year. This hosting formula, served your video 25 times a day (average). If it hits more, we'll need to discuss on what to do : 'cap' (limit is to 25 day max) or more to a more performant hosting contract.
